20th PIKS Congress – October 10, 2023, Józefów near Warsaw, Holiday Inn Resort

On October 10, 2023, the 20th anniversary edition of the prestigious Congress of the Polish Chamber of Steelwork took place. This large event has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of the largest conferences in the steel construction industry. The special guest of this year’s edition of the Congress was Marek Belka.

The Congress was opened by the President of the Chamber, Zbigniew Barłóg (METALBARK sp. z o. o. sp. k.). Then, the event guests were welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment – Anna Pogorzelska-Fuz (Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy) and Andrzej Sidło (Advisor in the Department of Nuclear Energy), who presented the current state of the national nuclear energy program in their speech. The international character of the Congress was determined by the presence of guests from Germany and the Czech Republic, who gave substantive lectures.

After a short lunch break, the participants had the pleasure of listening to the speech of the Special Guest of the Congress, Professor Marek Belka – Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance in 1997 in the government of Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz and in 2001-2002 in the government of Leszek Miller; In the years 2010–2016, Marek Belka was the president of the National Bank of Poland, currently (since 2019) he is a Member of the European Parliament of the 9th term.

In his speech, Marek Belka touched on the further economic development of our country and the broadly understood geopolitical situation. He talked about development prospects and threats posed by recent events in the international arena. At the end of the speech, the Special Guest of the Congress answered several questions from the audience.

At the end of the first part of the Congress, a meeting of representatives of Polish production companies with representatives of ČAOK (Česká asociace ocelových konstrukcí) was held. Tomáš Měřínský and Miroslav Kawalec presented their experience regarding the development of nuclear energy in the Czech Republic. The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange contacts.

In the evening, a ceremonial Gala was held, which began with the presentation of the Congress Partners:

  • first about the company BUDMAT STEEL sp. z o.o. said the President of the Management Board, Zdzisław Lenart,
  • then the galvanizing possibilities of METALCYNK were presented by Marek Nowak, Plant Manager and Proxy.

Traditionally, the gala was an opportunity to award Certificates of Manufacturer and Co-Producer of Steel Structures. These awards, which confirm the high quality of services provided, were received by Zbigniew Barłog and Aleksander Jonek (President of the Certificate Chapter) by representatives of:

  • EXBUD KONSTRUKCJE sp. z o. o. (full extension of the Steel Structures Manufacturer’s Certificate);
  • MOSTOSTAL PŁOCK S.A. (full extension of the Steel Structures Manufacturer’s Certificate);
  • ZEKON sp. z o. o. (full extension of the Steel Structures Manufacturer’s Certificate);
  • SciTeeX sp. z o. o. (awarding of the Full Steel Structures Manufacturer’s Certificate for the first time).

The extension of the Certificate of Co-Manufacturer of Steel Structures was received by the company:

  • ASMET sp. z o. o. (in terms of: fasteners and accessories for steel structures).

During the gala, the winner of this year’s edition of the “Steel Structure – Implementation of the Year” competition was announced – the statuette and diploma went to ZEKON sp. z o.o. for the impressive implementation of Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin. The details and work of ZEKON were presented by Marek Gierat – President of the Management Board of the company.

At the end of the official part of the Gala, another distinction was awarded, this time to MOSTOSTAL PUŁAWY S.A. The company was in the finals of this year’s European Steel Design Awards 2023 thanks to the construction of the entertainment and sports hall in Puławy. On behalf of MOSTOSTAL PUŁAWY S.A. the diploma was received in Amsterdam by Wioleta Barcewicz, member of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Steelwork and representative of PIKS on the ECCS Technical Board (TMB), who participated in the EUROSTEEL 2023 Conference where the results of the Competition were announced. The PIKS Congress was therefore a great opportunity to hand over commemorative diplomas to Tadeusz Rybak – President of the Management Board of MOSTOSTAL PUŁAWY S.A.

The gala was enriched by an artistic performance by Waldemar Malicki – a famous piano player who combined cabaret with classical music during an hour-long show. The concert ended with a standing ovation.
